VLC Multithreaded Batch Transcoder for Windows Visual Basic Scripting Host

I've been watching a lot of movies on the iPhone lately, and going through Quicktime's export procedure was getting tiresome.

Enter my automated VLC multithreaded batch transcoding script!

  1. Download the script. (Right click and select "Save link as..." or left click while holding the alt button.)
  2. Open it up with a text editor (like notepad.exe) or preferably something with visual basic syntax highlighting.
  3. Edit the variables strVLCdirectory, strSource, and strTarget to the directories of vlc.exe, source media files, and destination for transcoded files, respectively.
  4. If you want multithreading set numThreads to be greater than one. Number of cpus/cores minus one is suggested.
  5. You can change the encoder settings too (but you probably don't need to) with the strTranscode, strTargetFileExtension, and strMux variables.
  6. Do I really need to mention that you must already have downloaded and installed VLC? (I've been using version 0.8.6i)
  7. You should be ready to run it! Just double click "transcode 1.1 release" in explorer!

Sorry: Windows only, because it uses Visual Basic Scripting Host. Maybe I could work out a bash script for Linux and Mac users if there's enough demand...

Also, I've only used it on the iPhone, but you can surely use it for the iPod, PSP, and myriad other cell phones and media devices.

Like the script? Please donate a buck or two for my time!

Real Joystick HID support for Nintendo Wii remotes on MacOS.

From the Wiiji website: Use Nintendo Wii remotes on your Mac. Simply.

Wiiji is the perfect joystick solution for Wii remotes on Mac.

With Wiiji, your Wii remotes will appear as ordinary joysticks to any application that supports joystick input. It does this through a kernel extention.

If your favorite game doesn't support joysticks, Wiiji can emulate keyboard input, too.

It runs conveniently in your menu bar.

I develop Wiiji in my spare time. Please download it and the source from the Wiiji site.

Nintendo Family Basic Computer for the Famicom

As a throwback to my Commodore 64 programming days I recently picked up a Nintendo Famicom and the Family Basic Computer for it.

Sadly this was never released to the NES in America for marketing reasons.

I didn't get a manual with it, and there's very little information on the internet in English so I've translated what's available and put it here.

English Programming Help:
My translation of the below files.
Specs, Memory Map, Control Codes, Grammar, Error Messages

Original Japanese: (You may need to manually set the file encodings to read these.)
These Files are originally from Hawk's Family Basic Room.

So many excellent sounds!

The music editing is wonderful. The following picture and song were brought to you by maple4estry. Download his well composed 8-bit song here. His site is in Japanese, just scroll down and get ORIGROCK.

And finally, here's the paper advert. Brought to you by Balduin. He has some additional info too.
